Thank you for visiting our website and on behalf of the members of Hurt Pentecostal Holiness Church... Welcome! As our mission statement says, we exist to worship, work, and witness together while sharing God’s love with everyone. This has been a home church for me and my family since June 2019, and it could your home church, too. Our church is historic and traditional, yet vibrant and contemporary. There is a wonderful blend of age groups: preschoolers, children, youth, young adults, median adults, and senior adults. We are not all alike, but there is unity in our diversity. Our unity centers around our faith in Jesus Christ and our determination to be His followers through worship, missions, fellowship, ministry, and spiritual growth. Our DNA is multifaceted as we have folks in our church from a variety of backgrounds. Many have lived in this area for most of their lives but some are new to the area. In times past, industry has helped the economy in our area. Several plants once operated in the towns of Hurt and Altavista. Sadly, most have closed in recent years. However, there are some vibrant businesses and still some industrial plants that are thriving. We are just thirty minutes from Liberty University, Lynchburg, VA and about the same distance from the resort area of Smith Mountain Lake. As you travel highway 29 near the Hurt and Altavista exits you can see mountains along the Blue Ridge Parkway and the mountains at Smith Mountain Lake. In short, this is a beautiful area to live and worship!
Since 1944 Hurt Pentecostal Holiness Church has gathered for worship and fellowship on Grit Road in the area known as Jaybird Hill. But the church is not a place. Our congregation is engaged in our community and in missions nationally and internationally; and we are just as much the church (if not more) beyond the walls as we are inside the walls. As rich as our heritage is, and as much as we respect and cherish it, we believe our best days as a church are ahead of us, not behind us.
I am delighted that you have chosen to visit our website, and I hope you will visit us in person. I believe you will find our worship stimulating and inspiring, and our fellowship warm and inviting. But I hope you will also find that our church will provide you with many opportunities to discover, develop, and deepen your faith in Jesus Christ.
At Hurt Pentecostal Holiness Church, we are “Reaching Forward Together” and we are looking for others to unite with us! So if you are searching for a family of faith, you may have found it; and if you have, we welcome you.
